Stephen’s family was in the latter stages of building a holiday home on Sandy Gully when the disaster struck. He stayed up all night listening to the news from his home in Melbourne.
Stephen arrived the next morning to assess the destruction and brought with him a camera loaded with one roll of slide film to document what he saw.
The Ritchie family elected to begin the process of building again, accepting the risk of bushfire to live in close proximity with nature and the myriad species that live on their hidden block.
